Quote du Jour

Too much sanity may be madness. And maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be!

How people get here

I was looking through the access logs for hillfamily.net today. It's interesting (for me, probably not you) to see which areas of the site end up getting traffic. A few "popular" pages -

  • Do not drink BeverlyA photo of the Beverly drink dispenser at the old World of Coke. It gets a lot of interesting comments. Someone added a link to it from the Wikipedia Beverly entry.
  • "Things to do in and around Atlanta" page - I put this together a few years ago for visiting family and friends to know what the options are for touristy things in the area. It's now the most-visited page on the site. I added a few links to books at Amazon, which generate a little spending money for me each month. Most of the traffic comes through Google for people searching for things like "places to visit in Atlanta", "cheap things to do in Atlanta", and "cool things to see in Atlanta"
  • Burnand's Apostles Peter and John running to the tomb - a scan of a 1993 slide from the Orsay Museum in Paris. It's a great painting, although my photo of it is not. Again, most traffic is from Google searches.Disciples running to the tomb
  • Versailles photos - for some reason I used "pics" instead of "photos" in the title of this gallery and it has resulted in a lot of traffic from Google. Again, these are scans of slides from my mission.
  • A horribly blurry photo of Elvis' jungle room. No idea why, but this page has been visited over 6,000 times - maybe spambots like it. (No flashes allowed in Graceland and I didn't have a steady hand or a decent camera.)
  • Wendy's BBQ review page - she skewers a couple of local BBQ restaurants and the page now gets a lot of hits from people searching for coupons. It also gets some entertaining comments.
  • Opossum video - I didn't realize how passionate people could be about opossums. Check out the comments for this video at YouTube, esp. the guy who suggests I should get some literature to educate my wife.

Some fun search terms that have recently led people here -

  • My parents are exhausted
  • ingrown toenail
  • fat advertisement
  • the sun hydrogen turns to helium song
  • where to buy blue crabs in atlanta ga
  • some say love is like a flower
  • lions that are asleep

  • i never see thy face but i think upon hell-fire

Interesting to me to. I check the tracker for our blog regularly. I never realized how many people search photos. Search terms are so revealing. Someone eats uncooked bacon, goes to Google for help and comes to this site. I love imagining that.
